It took me a long time to accept what had happened to me and that my feelings towards what happened to me were perfectly normal and acceptable. For a long time I didn’t understand what I felt or why I felt that way.
It wasn’t until I visited my doctor and started counselling and they put a ‘label’ on it that I understood everything a little bit better.
Depression – is a low mood that lasts for a long time, and affects your everyday life. (source Mind)
Anxiety – is a feeling of unease, such as worry or fear, that can be mild or severe. (source NHS)
Someone once said to me”there’s no way you have depression, you smile too much”. My depression doesn’t affect me everyday and right now it isn’t affecting me as much as it once did. But it does creep up on me and if I’m not aware of the signs it can strike me badly. Although I know if it does I have ways to deal with it.
Remember it doesn’t matter who you are, what you are feeling – You are valid and your feelings are valid. There is no right or wrong way to feel.
